More About Jade
As a visual artist, Jade is fascinated by the interplay between the natural and industrial worlds. She is also interested in the ways that rigid materials can become delicate once transformed into new shapes. Jade is currently exploring these ideas in the design of wearable art created from plexiglass, wood and textiles through laser cutting fabrication processes. Her work draws inspiration from nature and from West Indian folklore, using floral and fauna motifs to investigate themes of identity and perception. These pieces are meant to be understood as kinetic works, moving with the bodies they ornament.

Jade’s diverse projects have included participating in the TorontoEntrepreneursConnect Summer Market and the Montreal BIPOC DigitalMarket as a featured vendor, the CASA Cares Charity Fashion Show as fashion designer from 2016-2018, and a campus-wide art installation titledTo U, completed during her 2019 residency at the Fine Arts Reading Room at Concordia University. The To U project was a reflection on notions of radical empathy and compassion rooted in Jade’s study of philosophy, feminist theory and sociology, and culminated in the distribution of 100 thoughtful, handwritten letters across the campus to support the mental health of her community during the stressful time of final exams.
